The current version supports VGA screens on PocketPC's. If designing your own screens in the Screen Designer, choose 320 x 240 device screen resolution. OziExplorerCE is designed to handle the translation to 640 x 480 (the full 640x480 resolution is used).
This note is for High Resolution PDA's such as the HP 310/312 or VGA Pocket PC's running in "true VGA" mode where the toolbars and dialogs appear too small. If you put a file called hires.dat in the folder where OziExplorer is installed (the contents of the file do not matter), OziExplorerCE will detect the file when it runs and change the size of its dialogs and other windows to suit devices with high resolution screens. Please note - this does not necessarily apply to Pocket PC's with VGA screens, OziExplorerCE already recognizes these PDA's and automatically adjusts. If you have loaded a utility to change the Pocket PC VGA to "true VGA" then adding the hires.dat file may help. OziExplorerCE cannot fix all the size issues because many are controlled by the operating system. Note the full resolution of the device is still used but dialogs, fonts, symbols etc are doubled in size. When designing new screens in the "Screen Designer" you must use half the resolution of your device as the screens are automatically doubled in size in OziExplorerCE.
OziExplorerCE supports portrait and landscape mode and will swap between them when changing the setting on the PocketPC.
OziExplorerCE supports PDA's with internal GPS receivers. All internal GPS receivers use a serial port for communication and OziExplorerCE can use this.
Configure OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)
Communication Port - Select the port COM2 from the drop down list. The later model PiN's (such as the 570) use COM8.
Baud Rate - set to 4800. The later model PiN's (such as the 570) use 9600
Sentence - GPRMC
GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84
Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)
Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect. If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.
Additional information for the later model PiN's such as the 570
The Notification Indicator light in the top left corner must be ON for OziExplorerCE to establish connection with the GPS.
Flashing Amber - Indicates the GPS receiver is turned on and is trying to establish a GPS fix.
Solid Amber - Indicates the GPS receiver is turned on and has a GPS fix.
To turn on GPS - Click Windows Start, Settings, System, GPS. Here there is one setting "GPS Power Setting" which has 2 buttons - ON and OFF. Even though the ON button is highlighted it has not been pressed. If this ON button is selected the light in the top left corner of the unit should begin to flash.
- When you run the Navman SmartST software (Version 3) it programs the GPS to output only the NMEA sentences it requires and does not reset it when it exits.
- OziExplorerCE v1.11.6f and later have the ability to check for the $GPGGA and $GPGSV NMEA sentences and turn them back on if they are missing. This option on the SIRF tab of the NMEA (GPS) configuration dialog.
Configure OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)
Communication Port - Select the port COM2 from the drop down list.
Baud Rate - set to 4800
Sentence - GPRMC
GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84
Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)
Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect. If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.
OziExplorerCE will run on the iQue M3, M4 and M5.
Configuring OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)
Select the Communication port from the drop down list. The drop-down list shows the actual ports which the PDA has installed and a description of each port is shown.
Communication Port - COM 2 but it could be COM 4 with newer models (iQue M4) or older models with ROM upgrade.
Note - The M5 does not output its position data on any of its external ports therefore it is not possible to connect the M5 to a PC and use it for moving map (real time tracking).
OziExplorerCE will run on the Asus 632 and Asus 636.
Configuring OziExplorerCE - using the menu options File / Configuration / NMEA (GPS)
Select the Communication Port port from the drop down list. The drop-down list shows the actual ports which the PDA has installed and a description of each port is shown.
Communication Port - COM 5 should be the port to use
Baud Rate - set to 4800
Sentence - GPRMC
GPS NMEA Output Datum - WGS84
Use Check Sum - set to ON (ticked)
Check Valid - can be set either way but be aware of the difference of operation you can expect. If ON - the Valid flag in the sentence from the GPS will be checked and if the GPS indicates that it does not have a valid fix, OziExplorerCE will NOT process the sentence. If OFF - the sentence will be processed, although the GPS may not have a valid fix.
Note - The Asus models do not output position data on any of the external ports therefore it is not possible to connect the them to a PC and use it for moving map (real time tracking).
Windows Mobile 5 and 6 have the option to configure the system so that two programs can receive the sentences from the GPS at the same time.
Click "Start" / "Settings" / "System Tab". On the System page click "GPS". Configure the following -
On the GPS Settings "Programs" tab, set the "GPS program port" to COM9.
On the GPS Settings "Hardware" tab, set the "GPS hardware port" to COM5 and "Baud rate" to 4800.
On the GPS Settings "Access" tab, tick "Manage GPS Automatically"
Click "ok"
All programs must be configured to use COM9 as the GPS communication port. All other OziExplorerCE settings will as shown above.
