This page has information on specific Garmin GPS models.
Garmins which support the "Garmin Spanner" mode
If this mode is supported by your GPS, moving map is available - see the Garmin Spanner Mode below.
GPSMAP 62s / 64s and other later models using the same interface
These GPS's can connect to the PC using 2 modes. When asked to go into Mass Storage Mode?
Waypoints, Routes and Tracks :
These models use GPX files to transfer waypoints, tracks (not moving map position) and are connected to the PC in mass storage mode to perform data transfer. Use the options on the Garmin Menu which will be displayed on the top menu. The menu items are specific to the GPS model selected in configuration / GPS tab.
Moving Map : (Garmin Spanner Mode)
The GPS must be connected to the PC in Spanner Mode for moving map. See the Garmin Spanner Mode section below (under "Colorado, Oregon or Dakota") for more setup details.
NOTE: Because it uses GPX file format, it is not possible to send individual waypoints from the Waypoint List therefore the button on the waypoint list is turned off.
Garmins (usually marine GPS's) which support ADM files (such as the GPSMAP 527)
ADM files are a Garmin proprietary format for saving Waypoints etc.
OziExplorer does not support this format. A work around is described below.
Using the freely downloadable Garmin "Home Port" software it appears you can export .ADM files as .GPX and import .GPX into .ADM files. OziExplorer can read and write GPX files. You may be able to use GPX files to transfer data to and from OziExplorer.
Nuvi (and other models which connect to the PC as media device)
The latest Garmin Nuvi models (and other models which
use this method) connect to the PC as a media device - OziExplorer requires
these models to be connected as a mass storage device.
These Garmins can usually be changed to mass storage mode so that they will
work with OziExplorer.
1. To change to Mass Storage Mode.
2. Start NUVI (or other model) by itself and go to Volume Screen.
3. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
4. The Developers Screen will pop up
5. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
6. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
7. Shut down NUVI and hookup to Computer USB cable
8. Start NUVI and it should recognize it is hooked up to the computer.
9. Windows Explorer will now see it as a drive letter and OziExplorer should
work ok.
Colorado, Oregon or Dakota
Connected via USB
OziExplorer Version 3.95.4s and later has support for the Colorado and the Oregon. (3.95.5e Dakota support was added) These GPS's store the data in GPX files which OziExplorer supports.
In OziExplorer Configuration / GPS Tab, select GPS Make = Garmin; GPS Model = Colorado or Oregon.
The GPS must be attached to your computer as a USB mass storage device (USB Mass Storage Mode) and it will become visible as a disk drive.
Data is transferred using the options on the "Garmin" menu.
To transfer data from OziExplorer to the GPS, use the "Save Waypoints / Tracks to GPS" options on the Garmin Menu, to save the data in GPX format to the GPS.
To load data from the GPS to OziExplorer, use the "Load Waypoints / Tracks from GPS" option on the Garmin Menu to load the GPX file from the GPS.
Garmin Spanner Mode - Only available on some models
If supported by your GPS, moving map is available -
set the GPS Interface to "Garmin Spanner" on your GPS. (Setup / System / Interface).
when the GPS is connected to the computer and turned on, the message "Usb Cable Detected? Would you like to go to Mass Storage Mode" - Answer NO.
the Garmin USB driver software must be installed (see the Garmin support website if you need these).
Note: Do not install Garmin Spanner software on the PC, it is not required.
in OziExplorer configuration make sure "Garmin USB" and "Use PVT for Garmin instead of NMEA" are both checked.
Connected via Serial Port
If you have the special serial cable and set the Interface in the GPS to Garmin Serial the Colorado and Oregon can do upload/download.
If the Interface is set to NMEA In/Out it will output NMEA data when connected via a serial port.

Nuvi or Zumo
OziExplorer Version 3.95.4s and later has support for the Nuvi. The Nuvi stores its data in GPX files which OziExplorer supports.
In OziExplorer Configuration / GPS Tab, select GPS Make = Garmin; GPS Model = Nuvi.
The Nuvi must be attached to your computer as a USB mass storage device (USB Mass Storage Mode) and it will become visible as a disk drive.
Data is transferred using the options on the "Garmin" menu.
To transfer data from OziExplorer to the Nuvi, use the "Save Waypoints / Tracks to GPS" options on the Garmin Menu, to save the data in GPX format to the Nuvi.
To load data from the Nuvi to OziExplorer, use the "Load Waypoints / Tracks from GPS" option on the Garmin Menu to load the GPX file from the GPS.
Quest (and Quest 2)
For upload / download of waypoints and tracks, on the COM Tab in configuration tick "Garmin USB".
On the GPS Tab, select Other Garmin and configure the other parameters to suit the GPS.
We are not sure if the Quest has moving map capability via NMEA but try ticking the option "Use PVT Moving Map instead of NMEA"
